Introduction
Children are great teachers. Their curiosity and thirst for knowledge is contagious and I find myself learning from them all the time. They don't feel ashamed to ask questions, they are not afraid of failing and they want to learn from their mistakes. They teach us patience, to go with the flow and not to take ourselves too seriously. They also teach us how to be present in every moment—and that sometimes it’s best not to think too hard about things. They teach us how to play again, because we have gotten so busy with life that we forget how much fun it is just being silly!
So here are some lessons children taught me:
Children play with wild abandon
Children play with wild abandon. They don’t worry about what others think of them, or whether their actions are considered cool or silly. They only care about having fun and experiencing life in that moment, which is why children are so good at being present in the moment and not letting worries about the future or past bog them down.
Children cry, hug, smile and laugh with their whole bodies
Children are great teachers because they cry, hug, smile and laugh with their whole bodies. They can't hide their emotions because they haven't learned to mask them. They're not afraid of being vulnerable and expressing themselves authentically in a way that adults sometimes forget how to do.
Children move in time to music
One of my favourite ways children can teach adults is through music! Kids love music and they dance (usually) without inhibition or self-consciousness—they move their bodies in time with the beat of the song; they feel it within themselves, they express it through movement and sound. And this makes sense because all humans are wired that way: we need rhythm in our lives! It helps keep our brains healthy as well as our spirits high!
Children have a sense of wonder
Children have a sense of wonder. They are open to new experiences and not afraid of failure, making mistakes, or trying something that may seem silly or stupid. They want to know what things will taste like and will often ask for seconds if they enjoy a particular food. Children are full of energy and life!
Children are full of energy and life! They are curious and want to explore their world. They have a sense of wonder about everything and are not afraid of failure or making mistakes. Children love to play with toys and often create their own games using whatever materials they can find. Children will try anything once, even if they don’t like it the first time.
Children are receptive, imaginative and curious
Children are receptive, imaginative and curious. They have a deep desire to learn and grow. The world is new to them, so they are not afraid to ask questions that may seem silly or irrelevant. Children are also capable of being thoughtful participants in the learning process because they see things from different perspectives than adults do. They can think outside the box and create new ideas for themselves because they don't have preconceived notions about what is possible or impossible for them to achieve.
Spend time with children to gain perspective on how to live life fully.
You don't have to be a parent to realise that children are great teachers. Spend time with them and you'll gain perspective on how to live life fully.
Children are a source of inspiration, hope, joy and love—and they're not afraid to show it!
A few things kids can teach us
Compassion. Kids are naturally kind, and they can teach us to be more empathetic as well.
Playfulness. Children are known for their ability to make the most mundane things entertaining and fun—something we could all use more of in our lives!
Imagination. When was the last time you waited with anticipation for someone to tell you what's under your bed or at the end of your street? Imagine a world where we all had that same sense of wonder about everything around us!
Curiosity. Our kids' natural curiosity about how things work makes them excellent investigators and problem solvers who want answers now!
Conclusion
The takeaways from this article are that children are great teachers, and we should spend more time with them. They teach us to live in the moment, they teach us that we can learn from our mistakes, they teach us that there's no such thing as perfection and they teach us how to love unconditionally.
What lessons have you gained from spending time with children?
